LOWELL, Mass. - No. 16 Stanford dropped its second straight decision on Friday afternoon, falling 3-2 at UMass Lowell in the second game of a three-match, four-day road swing.
Stanford (7-2, 5-2 America East) held advantages in shots (13-7) and penalty corners (9-5) but was only able to convert two of its scoring chances.
UMass Lowell (7-4, 5-3 America East) found the cage three times on only seven attempts, including back-to-back goals in a five-minute stretch midway through the second half that forced Stanford to chase.
The Cardinal responded with a dominant fourth period, outshooting the River Hawks 7-1 and attempting six penalty corners in the final 15 minutes but coming up empty.
Juli Porto's fourth goal of the season came off a one-timer in the 23rd minute, with Kaylie Mings increasing her team-leading assist total to six.
Tied 1-1 at halftime, UMass Lowell scored twice in a five-minute span that bridged the third and fourth periods.
Caroline Guden's second goal of the season at the 58:39 mark was a rebound following a penalty corner. The Cardinal continued to pressure in the final minute but was unable to force overtime.

Stanford closes its road trip on Sunday against Albany at 9 a.m. PT, with the winner booking a spot in next weekend's America East Championship.
