Roemer, Cardinal Well Represented

STANFORD, Calif. - Jewel Roemer was named the Newcomer of the Year by the MPSF, highlighting a group of five honorees from Stanford announced on Thursday morning.

Roemer is Stanford's conference record eighth MPSF Newcomer of the Year and second in the last three years. She was also named second-team All-MPSF and one of seven players named to the All-Newcomer team. Joining her in earning postseason awards were Emalia Eichelberger and Sarah Klass, both named first-team All-MPSF, Chloe Harbilas, named second-team All-MPSF and Hannah Shabb, named an honorable mention.

Roemer has scored 29 goals on the year, third-most on the team. She has also dished out 21 assists to rank in the MPSF's top-five through the regular season. Her 50 points entering the MPSF Tournament ranks sixth in the MPSF and are the most among all freshmen. Twenty-four of her goals have come within conference games, which are the fourth-most. Roemer has recorded 10 multiple-goal games in her initial season to match Klass with the most on the Cardinal. Roemer had a career-high five goals at top-ranked USC, Stanford's second-highest single-game scoring output this year. She was a three-time MPSF/KAP7 Newcomer of the Week, most recently after combining for three goals and three steals across two wins at No. 4 California. She totaled four goals and four assists in the Indiana series, good for her second weekly honor, one week after her first career MPSF award backed by a conference season-high six assists against San Jose State.

Now a three-time All-MPSF honoree, making her second appearance on the first team, Eichelberger has again asserted herself as the top goalkeeper in the league, leading the MPSF in saves per game (8.3) among goalies who have started the majority of their team's games. Her 116 total saves rank third in the conference, and she is one of three goalkeepers in the MPSF with a save percentage over 50 percent. She has been a mainstay in the cage for the Cardinal all season long, starting every game, and boasts 390 career saves entering this year's postseason. She featured a season-high 15 saves at No. 5 Arizona State earlier this year and has collected six double figure save performances on the season.

Earning first-team All-MPSF honors for the second straight year, Klass is pacing Stanford with 37 goals on the year and leads the MPSF, averaging 2.6 per game. She has maintained her dominance in sprints, winning 52 of her 58 attempts, for a conference-best 89.7%. Klass has scored in 12 of Stanford's 14 games, including a season-high seven goals in a Cardinal victory over No. 13 Indiana earlier in the year. Her 10 multi-goal performances are tied with Roemer for the team lead.

Also becoming a two-time All-MPSF honoree is Harbilas, after being named an honorable mention last season. Harbilas is second on the team with 30 goals on the year, ranking sixth in the MPSF with an average of 2.1 goals per game. Defensively, Harbilas has collected 15 steals in conference play this season, ranking sixth in the MPSF, and has been a key cog in the Stanford offense, helping to push transition whenever possible. She's boasted eight multi-goal performances on the year, including a season and career-high five goals against No. 15 San Jose State.

Returning for her fifth season, Shabb will wrap her Stanford career as a two-time All-MPSF honoree, ranking fourth on the team with 23 goals this season, including six multi-goal performances. A "do it all" player for the Cardinal, Shabb ranks fifth in the MPSF, averaging 1.4 steals per game, boasting 17 in conference play alone. Her best performance this season came just last weekend, scoring five times in a dominant victory over No. 16 San Jose State.

The No. 3 seed Cardinal opens its postseason on Friday, April 30, taking on Indiana at the MPSF Tournament in Tempe, Arizona.
