TUCSON, Ariz. – Stanford struck early but could not maintain its pressure in a 2-1 loss at Arizona, Friday night.
The Cardinal (5-4-1, 4-2-0 Pac-12) scored in the 14th minute off Jojo Harber's first goal of the season, but the Wildcats (7-4-0, 2-4-0 Pac-12) responded with goals in the 32nd and 66th minute.
Harber scored her first goal of the year thanks to a diagonal pass from Amy Sayer in the final third, as the latter picked up her first career assist on the play. The senior is the 10th different goal scorer for the Cardinal this season.
Sayer had a chance to equalize the match in the final two minutes, but her shot from outside the penalty box went high.
Stanford led the way with 18 shots on the night – its sixth game with at least 15 shots this season.
The Cardinal will look to rebound on Sunday at Arizona State. Kickoff against the 16th-ranked Sun Devils is set for 2 p.m. PT, and the match will air on the Pac-12 Network.
