STANFORD, Calif. - Emily Arbuthnott has been named the Pac-12 Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year, adding to her extensive collection of academic honors.
The award is presented in each of the 24 sports sponsored by the Pac-12 and was established to honor student-athletes that are standouts both academically and in their sports discipline.
Arbuthnott is the fourth Cardinal player to be named Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year, joining Caroline Doyle (2017), Krista Hardebeck (2015) and Lindsay Burnette (2010).
An economics major boasting a 4.16 GPA, Arbuthnott has led the Cardinal to two NCAA championships (2018-19) and three Pac-12 titles (2017-19). A two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team honoree (2019-20), Arbuthnott is also a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete. She has earned academic recognition at the conference level every year, being named to the 2020 Pac-12 All-Academic Honor Roll after two seasons on the Pac-12 All-Academic team (2018-19).
Arbuthnott is 8-7 overall in singles this season, playing the majority of her matches at the No. 2 position. In doubles, Arbuthnott has teamed with Angelica Blake as the Cardinal's No. 2 tandem to post a 6-2 record.
Arbuthnott has compiled a 109-33 career singles record and is 10-3 all-time in NCAA team competition. One of Stanford's most clutch players, Arbuthnott has provided 31 clinchers, with seven of those coming during NCAA play.
In order to be eligible for the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, student-athletes must be a senior, on track to receive a degree, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher, participate in at least 50 percent of the scheduled contests in the sport and have a minimum one year in residence at the institution.
