Stanford Falls on Saturday

LOS ANGELES – Stanford softball (29-17, 8-9 Pac-12) was swept at the hands of No. 2 UCLA (37-3, 15-2 Pac-12), 9-0 (five innings) and 3-1 on Saturday at Easton Stadium.

The Bruins took the early advantage, scoring on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the first, and added runs in the second, third and fifth innings for the 9-0, run-rule victory in game one.

Stanford utilized four pitchers in the first game of the doubleheader, with Regan Krause being credited with the loss. Maddy Dwyer, Tatum Boyd and Gabi Peters also appeared in the circle.

Taylor Gindlesperger doubled in the first inning for the Cardinal's lone hit in the conference game.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Montana Dixon was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bat Emily Young across the plate in the top of the second. With two outs already in the inning, the Cardinal were unable to add another run.

Gindlesperger led off the top of the third with her second double of the day, but she was stranded on third in the inning.

UCLA would tie the game 1-1 with an unearned run in the bottom half of the inning, and a two-run home run from Rachel Garcia gave the second-ranked team a 3-1 lead.

Stanford looks to pull a game in the series in Sunday's finale. First pitch on Pac-12 Network is scheduled for 2 p.m.
