STANFORD, Calif. - Continuing to garner recognition during a standout senior season, Brendan Beck added ABCA/Rawlings All-America first team honors to his list of accomplishments on Saturday.
The right-hander is one of 14 student-athletes selected for All-America teams who are playing in the NCAA Div. I College World Series starting today in Omaha.
Beck, the 2021 Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year, is also an All-American according to Collegiate Baseball (second team), the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (second team), Baseball America (third team) and Perfect Game (third team). Stanford's ace, Beck has pitched to a 9-1 record and a 2.96 ERA over 15 appearances and 14 starts this year. The native of Corona, Calif., who owns the third-best ERA in the Pac-12, has struck out a Pac-12 best 128 compared to just 23 walks over 100 1/3 innings of work. His 5.57 strikeout-to-walk ratio ranks third in the Pac-12, while his 11.48 strikeouts per nine innings are also third. Beck's 128 strikeouts are the most for a Cardinal in a single season since Mark Appel in 2013 (130). Further establishing himself among the elite pitchers in the nation, Beck's .95 WHIP leads the conference and ranks 22nd nationally. As consistent as any pitcher this year, Beck has turned in a quality start in 12 of 14 starts, including registering a complete game in two of his last four turns.
First recognized in 1949, the ABCA/Rawlings All-Americans are selected by the ABCA All-America committee, which is chaired by Tommy Raffo of Arkansas State University. ABCA/Rawlings All-Region first-team selections, which were announced on Wednesday, were nominated for All-America honors.
