Fifth at Team Race Nationals

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Finishing in the top five for the third year in a row, Stanford sailing took fifth place overall at the ICSA Team Race National Championship.

Seven athletes saw the water for the Cardinal: Skippers Jack Parkin, Telis Athanasopoulos Yogo and Michelle Lahrkamp and crews Sammy Pickell, AnaClare Sole, Patricia Gerli and Abigail Tindall.

Stanford went 7-4 on the opening day, which featured a combination of racing in 420s and FJs. The Cardinal posted wins over Jacksonville, Navy, Boston College, US Merchant Marine, St. Mary's (MD), Charleston and Roger Williams to help Stanford advance as part of the top-six finishers to the second day of action.

The Cardinal opened the gold tier of racing on Thursday with a win over Brown, including the top finishing boat, but subsequently fell in meetings against Georgetown, Roger Williams, Navy and Charleston.

The top five finish is Stanford's second in as many national championship events to end the 2021 campaign, as the team finished fifth at the ICSA Women's Championship in May. Stanford caps the season June 7-8 in Annapolis for the ICSA Coed National Championship.
