PRAGUE, Czech Republic - Stanford rowing put on a strong display at the Under-23 World Rowing Championship, combining for seven medals and two world championships. The women's team won six medals while the men's team added a silver.
Junior Peter Chatain won silver with the United States in the men's eight, sitting in the 5 seat. The American team was edged in a sprint to the finish by two tenths of a second by Great Britain. The result continues a strong stretch for Chatain, who was an IRCA All-American and the Pac-12 Athlete of the Year.
"We are so proud of Peter and what the USA U23 eight accomplished this summer. It was a young group and they had a shorter than usual amount of time to select the crew and prepare to race together than normal," said Ted Sobolewski, the Farwell Family Director of Men's Rowing. "They came away with the silver in a very tight race and no doubt gained valuable experience at a very high level of competition. Peter will come back to The Farm next fall in a better position to lead our team both on and off the water because of this."
