Unprecedented Academic Success

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford was honored with a school-record 21 All-Academic selections, as announced Wednesday by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC).

Stanford's 21 honorees, surpassing the previous school record of 15 recipients achieved most recently in 2019, comprise its entire roster of eligible student-athletes who practiced and competed in 2021. The Cardinal's success was even more impressive considering its late report date and abbreviated season due to the COVID-19 global pandemic and accompanying county restrictions.

The Cardinal also boasted the nation's top GPA at 3.846, with 12 student-athletes maintaining a 3.80 GPA or higher.

Student-athletes eligible for the ACWPC All-Academic award must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher. Athlete merit levels include "excellent" (3.20-3.40), "superior" (3.41-3.70) and "outstanding" (3.71 to 4.0).

Stanford has produced at least 10 ACWPC All-Academic selections in each of the past 13 seasons.

Two months ago, Stanford was recognized for its success at the conference level, with all 13 eligible student-athletes earning a spot on the MPSF All-Academic Team. Last week, the Cardinal was honored with the same 21 student-athletes named to the Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll.

The Cardinal was also represented with an individual national academic award in May, as Sophie Wallace became the third player in program history to capture the NCAA Elite 90 Award, presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.
