STANFORD, Calif. – Making her way across the country, Madison Keaty has been named associate head coach of the Stanford lightweight rowing program. She joins the Cardinal after three seasons at Alabama.
"I am so excited and honored to be joining the phenomenal university and community that is Stanford," said Keady. "I'd like to thank Stanford Athletics, Emily McLaughlin, and Derek Byrnes for this incredible opportunity. Stanford is a school of champions with high character and strong values, and I have always admired the lightweight rowing program for those reasons. I look forward to getting started with this great group in their continued pursuit of athletic and academic excellence and growth. Go Stanford!"
Keaty arrived in Tuscaloosa in 2018 as an assistant coach at Alabama, serving as the novice coach and in-state recruiting coordinator. She coached the varsity fours to second-place results at the Big-12 Championships in 2019 and 2021, and helped the team receive its first bid to the NCAA Championships in 2021.
Alabama earned its highest rankings in program history under Keaty's watch, including the first top-20 ranking after a win over then-No. 16 Indiana in 2019 and the highest mark in program history in 2021 after a victory over then-No. 5 California.
Prior to Keaty's tenure at Alabama, she spent two years as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at her alma mater, Gonzaga. She led the varsity four and second varsity four to West Coast Conference championships in both 2017 and 2018, appearing at the NCAA Championship in both campaigns.
Keaty was a graduate assistant at Ithaca College from 2014-16, working with the varsity lightweights and varsity four for both the lightweights and the openweights. Ithaca achieved a first-place result at the National Invitational Rowing Championship in 2016 as well as the Dad Vail Regatta.
Keaty spent one year, 2018, as an assistant coach at Ready Set Row, a summer development camp in North Andover, Massachusetts.
An accomplished rower in college, Keaty was a four-year member of the team at Gonzaga. A captain as a senior, Keaty competed as part of the varsity eight that led the Bulldogs to its first NCAA appearance in program history in 2013. Keaty was the 2013 West Coast Conference Rower of the Year, and a two-time All-WCC first team honoree. She was a three-time CRCA Scholar-Athlete and WCC Honor Roll selection.
Keaty graduated with her Bachelor's from Gonzaga in 2014 and received a Master's from Ithaca in 2015.
