Stanford Sweep

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Sailing to victory in the first regatta of the year, Stanford's Grace Austin and John Kirkpatrick swept the titles at the PCCSC Singlehanded Championship on Saturday.

Austin sailed a perfect regatta, finishing first in each of the 10 races on the day. Sailing in radials, the sophomore won by 15 total points over her competitors from Hawaii and Washington.

Kirkpatrick won by 10 points after winning six of 10 races and finishing no lower than third. The senior picked up his second win in the regatta, and his third-consecutive top-two result.

Both sailors qualified for the ICSA Singlehanded Championship with their victories, with the event set for Nov. 6-7 in Seattle.

Stanford takes the water next from Oct. 2-3, splitting for a trio of regattas. The Cardinal hosts the PCCSC Match Race Championship while also competing at the Danmark Trophy (New London, Conn.) and Women's Atlantic Coast Qualifier (St. Mary's City, Md.).
