Beck Named Assistant Coach

STANFORD, Calif. - Mackie Beck has been named an assistant coach for the Stanford women's water polo program, as announced on Friday by head coach John Tanner, Stanford's Dunlevie Family Director of Women's Water Polo.

Beck joins the Cardinal staff after serving as the assistant coach for the previous two seasons at Indiana, helping guide the Hoosiers to 23 victories and consecutive No. 15 CWPA final national rankings during her tenure.

"We are thrilled to have Mackie join our program and the Stanford Athletics coaching staff," said Tanner, who begins his 25th season at the helm in 2022. "Mackie is a rising star in the coaching profession with a passion for water polo. Mackie's capacity to inspire everyone she works with, coupled with her wide-ranging interests and experiences, will make a significant impact in our program."

"I am very excited to be joining the Stanford women's water polo coaching staff," said Beck. "This is an exciting opportunity to work with a program that I have looked up to for years as an athlete and coach. I am eager to begin contributing to the program's goals and help set the standard for women's collegiate water polo. JT, Susan and Kyle have established a solid foundation for the program and I am looking forward to learning from and working with such a talented staff and bright student-athletes."

During her first season as an assistant coach at Indiana, Beck helped lead the Hoosiers to 13-5 record in a 2020 campaign shortened by the COVID-19 global pandemic. In 2021, Indiana again reached the 10-win mark, including a victory in the MPSF Tournament.

Beck arrived at Indiana with over 15 years of water polo experience as both a player and coach. Beck was a professional water polo player for two years, competing overseas in Australia (UNSW), Spain (CN Rubi) and Greece (Tritons Water Polo Club).

A native of Mission Viejo, California, Beck served as a youth water polo coach for the SET Water Polo Club in Orange County, California, helping direct the 16U Grey team to a 19th overall finish at the Junior Olympics in the Championship division. Beck was also an assistant coach for both the girl's and boy's teams at Laguna Beach High School in Orange County.

Beck played collegiately at Loyola Marymount from 2012-15, powering the Lions to back-to-back conference titles while earning all-conference honors in each of her four seasons. A member of the USA Water Polo Olympic Development program from 2008-10, Beck earned her degree in Business Administration and Marketing from Loyola Marymount in 2015.
