STOCKTON, Calif. - No. 4 Stanford swept its opening day of competition at the Pacific Invite, defeating San Jose State and the host Tigers.

Stanford started the day in strong fashion, rolling past the Spartans. The Cardinal scored on its opening possession on a shot from Beck Jurasius, and after a brief 2-1 deficit Stanford rattled off three straight to take a 4-2 advantage.
The Cardinal got goals from four different players in its five-goal second period to extend the lead to 9-5 at halftime, and from there, the Stanford defense would reign supreme.
Stanford allowed just two goals the entire second half to stretch the lead out for good. The four goals from Jurasius are a new career high, as were the three from Walker Seymour.

There wasn't much separating the Cardinal and the Tigers in Saturday's finale. Stanford jumped out to a 2-0 lead behind goals from Beck Jurasius and Larsen Weigle, but Pacific clamped down on defense and took advantage of two man-up opportunities to even things up at 2-2.
From there, the Cardinal pushed ahead 5-3, but again the Tigers fought back, making the score 5-5 at halftime.
The two sides traded scores up until the fourth period, when the host school went on a run. After Weigle made the score 8-8, Pacific held Stanford scoreless for over five minutes and capitalized with two goals of its own for a 10-8 lead. Another Weigle score drew the Cardinal within one, but UOP pushed right back out to 11-9 with just over two and a half minutes remaining.
Adrenaline kicked in for Stanford, as no more goals were allowed in regulation and Quinn Woodhead and Parker Killion combined to score the two goals the Cardinal needed to tie the game, sending it to overtime.
In overtime, the two sides traded quick goals before Jurasius put the victory on ice for Stanford and the Tiger offense was shutout in the second of the two extra periods.
Nolan Krutonog played the length of both of Stanford's games on Saturday, collecting a total of 20 saves.
