STANFORD, Calif. - No. 4 Stanford opened its home campaign on Wednesday evening at Avery Aquatic Center, defeating local rival Santa Clara 15-9. The win pushes the Cardinal to 3-0 on the year.

No. 3 Stanford 15 - No. 15 Santa Clara 9

The Broncos posed an energetic threat early on, jumping out to two leads at 1-0 and 2-1, as Stanford worked to get its offense in rhythm. Powerplay opportunities helped the Cardinal take the lead, as reigning MPSF Player of the Week Beck Jurasius and Troy Gleason scored back-to-back with a man-up, before Ike Love slammed home a goal right before the horn to give Stanford a 4-2 lead after the opening quarter.

Strong defense from Santa Clara and some unlucky shots plagued Stanford in the second period, as the Cardinal was held scoreless, with four shots clanging off the post.

With the score evened up at 4-4 after the break, Stanford found success angling from the right side of the goal, depositing scores from Walker Seymour and Andrew Churukian for a 6-4 lead. Tyler Abramson was key for the Cardinal in activating the offense, finishing with three assists and three goals on the day, including back-to-back scores to make the score 13-7 early in the fourth period.

Nolan Krutonog and Liam Harrison split duties in goal, with the rookie Harrison collecting five saves.

The Cardinal finished with 15 goals on 31 shots. Stanford has scored at least 15 goals in each of its first three games.
