Schedule Announcement

STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford wrestling team will begin the 2021 season at CSU Bakersfield on Sunday. 
 
The Cardinal will embark on a 15-day road trip with stops in Bakersfield, San Luis Obispo, Little Rock, Arkansas and Corvallis, Oregon, and is scheduled to compete in eight duals during that stretch.
 
In accordance with Santa Clara County's restrictions for collegiate sports, athletics activities that involve contact, do not allow for social distancing, or that take place indoors, remain prohibited. Additionally, individuals are required to quarantine for 10 days upon entering or returning from travel of over 150 miles from Santa Clara County's borders. As a result, the wrestling team has conducted modified outdoor training activities that comply with the current restrictions.
 
Stanford Athletics is exploring on a sport-by-sport basis the landscape of competition opportunities that could potentially be available for varsity teams over the next several months. The process for creating a viable path to a meaningful competitive season for each sport includes evaluating each program's current circumstances, conference schedule, postseason qualification criteria, necessary onboarding and training time and potential for a quarantine period upon entering Santa Clara County.

The NCAA has modified the minimum number of contests required to be eligible for at-large selections for postseason tournaments across all sports, including a minimum of four matches required for an individual in the sport of wrestling.

In light of all these factors, Stanford Athletics determined that this condensed road schedule constituted the minimum viable season for Stanford wrestling.
