Vilips Leads Way On Day One

ALPHARETTA, Ga. - Led by sophomore Karl Vilips, who sits in fourth place, Stanford men's golf sits in eighth place following the first round at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate. The event is being played on the par 72 Lakeside Course. 

Vilips finished the round with a 5-under 67, tying his best score-to-par at Stanford (5-under 65 at 2021 Western Intercollegiate). Vilips fired a scorching, 5-under 31 on the front.

Freshman Alex Yang's 2-under 70 was his second consecutive round at 2-under. He currently sits tied for 14th. Yang was helped by a five hole stretch (holes 9-13) where he posted an eagle and two birdies. Michael Thorbjornsen also finished strong on Friday to carry momentum into the weekend. Thorbjornsen birdies three of the final four holes to get back to even and tied for 32nd. 

Stanford is chasing Pepperdine and Texas A&M, who are tied atop the leaderboard at 13-under. The Cardinal will tee off on Saturday for the second round beginning at 6:20 a.m. PT from No. 10 with Duke and East Tennessee State.
