Stanford wins Oberg Trophy, 4th at Coed ACCs

STANFORD, Calif. – Splitting for a pair of events in Massachusetts and Maryland, Stanford sailing returned home with a victory at the Oberg Trophy and a fourth-place finish at the Coed Atlantic Coast Championships.

The coed team, which entered the weekend ranked second nationally, qualified for the Atlantic Coast Championship earlier this fall, and took fourth in the final event with 154 points. Jack Parkin and Sammy Pickell contributed 79 points in Division A, which was seventh-best, while four athletes contributed to a seventh-place 75 points in Division B: Wiley Rogers, AnaClare Sole, Michelle Lahrkamp and Patricia Gerli.

Up the coast in Boston, Stanford cruised to a 31-point triumph at the Oberg Trophy. Justin Lim and Gwendolyn Donahue totaled 77 points in the A Division, fourth-best in the flight, and Berta Puig and Ashton Borcherding were sixth-fastest in Division B with 82 points. The top mark on the weekend came in Division C from Hannah Freeman and Abigail Tindall, whose 54 points led the way. The Cardinal trailed Tufts by three points with two sets of races to go, but pulled ahead with a strong effort to end up besting the Jumbos by 32 points.

Stanford returns to the water at home on Oct. 30 and Oct. 31 with the PCCSC Women's Fall Championship and the PCCSC Women's Fall Team Race Championship.
