Topped in High-Scoring Affair

DAVIS, Calif. – Taking the field 48 hours late due to adverse weather conditions in Davis, Stanford field hockey fell, 5-3, to the host Aggies on Tuesday afternoon. The match was the final non-conference bout of the year for the Cardinal (3-7).

Junior Molly Redgrove and redshirt junior Lily Croddick paced the Cardinal with a goal and assist each, while sophomore Haley Mossmer scored her team-leading eighth goal of the year. Junior Megan Frost was also credited an assist in the contest.

After a scoreless first period with just one shot between the two teams, coming from Stanford's Rose Winter, UC Davis broke the deadlock with a goal just under two minutes into the second quarter. Redgrove responded with her first goal of the year just 90 seconds later, placing a shot in the corner off the feed from Croddick and Frost.

The Aggies scored two goals in a row to take a 3-1 advantage, but Stanford stormed back to tie the contest with 11:22 to play. First, Croddick scored an unassisted tally for her second of the season, while Mossmer tipped home a pass from Redgrove to level the game in the fourth quarter.

UC Davis was able to score twice to end the game in the fourth quarter, finishing at 5-3.

Stanford returns to action this weekend at New Hampshire (Oct. 29) and UMass Lowell (Oct. 31).
