Liao Named Director of Golf Operations

STANFORD, Calif. – Andrew Liao has been tabbed as Stanford's Director of Golf Operations, replacing Lauren Dobashi who was named head women's golf coach at San Diego State this summer. Liao began his duties on Monday, Oct. 18 following five-plus years at the United States Golf Association (USGA).

"I'm excited to join the Stanford men's and women's golf programs as the Director of Golf Operations," Liao said. "Coach Ray and Coach Walker are among the best coaches in the country and I'm looking forward to being part of both historic programs."

Liao will wear many hats to serve both programs. He will be the Tournament Director for the Stanford Intercollegiate (women's) and The Goodwin (men's) that the Cardinal programs host each year. He will also be the primary events coordinator for all of the events that Stanford Golf hosts throughout the year with alumni, donors and other constituents.

"The landscape of top-tier college golf has never been more complex and we are excited to invest in the support of our student-athletes as they navigate this journey with the addition of Andrew," Knowles Family Director of Men's Golf Conrad Ray said. "He has an impressive history working on some of the best amateur golf events in the world. His skill set matches perfectly with the role of our Director of Operations. We are excited for him to join the Stanford Golf family."

While at the USGA, Liao was responsible for a plethora of high-profile events each year. From 2016-21 he managed the U.S. Women's Open Championship. He also was responsible for operations at the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship (2021), Curtis Cup Match (2018) and U.S. Women's Amateur Championship (2016-19).

"Andrew is an incredible add to our team," Margot and Mitch Milias Director of Women's Golf Anne Walker said. "His depth of knowledge in tournament operations, event management and user experience will elevate Stanford Golf in new ways. We are excited to learn from him as he helps both programs continue to reach new heights."

In his day-to-day role, Liao will assist both coaching staffs with all of their needs, including managing the accounting and program budgets. He will assist with on-campus recruiting and also serve as the Staff Director and Coordinator for the many golf camps the Cardinal programs host throughout the year at the world-class Siebel Varsity Golf Training Complex.

Prior to Liao's time at USGA, he worked at the American Junior Golf Association for two years as a Tournament Manager.

Liao is a 2014 graduate of Indiana University where he received his degree in biochemistry.
