Card Sweeps Cats

STANFORD, Calif. – Firing on all cylinders, No. 17 Stanford swept Arizona, 25-15, 25-18, 25-16, Sunday, at Maples Pavilion.

Stanford (8-4, 3-1 Pac-12) hit .380 as a team, while holding Arizona to a .122 clip. The Wildcats (11-4, 3-1 Pac-12) entered the match as the lone undefeated team in Pac-12 play after Utah defeated Oregon earlier in the afternoon.

Freshman setter Kami Miner controlled the offense with 33 assists and had six digs, two kills and two blocks. Junior opposite Kendall Kipp recorded a match-high 12 kills on .348 hitting and had three blocks and two aces.
 


Redshirt sophomore outside hitter Caitie Baird hit .421 with 10 kills on 19 swings with just two errors. She also tallied six digs, two blocks and an ace. Freshman outside hitter Sami Francis added nine kills on .467 hitting and two blocks.

Senior middle blocker Holly Campbell finished with five kills and four blocks for the Cardinal. Redshirt sophomore middle blocker McKenna Vicini registered a match-best five blocks and had three kills.
 


Starting her second match at libero for an injured Elena Oglivie, freshman Taylor Beaven had a match-high 10 digs to go with three assists. Sophomore defensive specialist Alex Lougeay chipped in with two digs and an ace.

Junior Selina Xu came off the bench to serve in all three sets, finishing with a dig and an ace, while junior Natalie Berty played back row for Kipp, totaling three digs and an assist. Redshirt freshman Leilah Smith made her collegiate debut, subbing in for Vicini late in the third set.

Arizona was led by Puk Stubbe's nine kills and three digs. Outside hitter Sofia Maldonado Diaz added six kills, while Jaelyn Hodge had five kills, four digs and a pair of blocks. The Cardinal is now 72-9 all-time versus the Wildcats.

Stanford hits the road next week, traveling back to the state of Oregon to face Oregon State on Friday and No. 11 Oregon on Sunday.
