McKee Magic

STANFORD, Calif. – Two days after leading the Cardinal to a 31-24 upset victory over No. 3 Oregon in overtime, Stanford quarterback Tanner McKee was honored by three organizations, Monday. The Corona, Calif., native was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week, a Manning Award Star of the Week, and to the Davey O'Brien Great 8 list.

On Saturday, McKee completed 20-of-36 passes for 230 yards, while throwing three touchdowns for his fourth straight three-touchdown game. He led the Cardinal on an 11-play, 87-yard drive in the final 1:59 to tie the game with a two-yard touchdown pass to Elijah Higgins on a final, untimed down. In overtime, McKee hit John Humphreys for a 15-yard touchdown for the go-ahead score.

McKee is the first freshman quarterback to defeat a Top-5 team since Bo Nix led No. 15 Auburn to victory over No. 5 Alabama on Nov. 30, 2019.

Over his first four career starts, McKee is 3-1, with two wins over Top-15 teams. He is one of three quarterbacks to have thrown at least 10 touchdowns and zero interceptions this season.
