Sun Devils Defeat Cardinal

TEMPE, Ariz. – Competing with only nine available players, No. 15 Stanford dropped a 25-22, 19-25, 21-25, 17-25 decision at Arizona State, Sunday, at Desert Financial Arena.

Stanford (12-8, 7-5 Pac-12) hit .213 as a team, while Arizona State (13-10, 6-6 Pac-12) posted a .245 clip. The Cardinal held a 6.0 to 5.0 edge in blocks, while the Sun Devils had a 71-59 advantage in digs.

The Cardinal played without starting setter Kami Miner, starting opposite Kendall Kipp and starting defensive specialist Alex Lougeay for the second straight match.

Redshirt sophomore Caitie Baird led all players with 20 kills on .333 hitting to go with 15 digs for her team-best seventh double-double of the season.

Elena Oglivie, Stanford's starting libero, moved to outside hitter against the Sun Devils and turned in her first collegiate double-double with 15 kills and 17 digs. Freshman Sami Francis played at opposite and totaled nine kills, two digs and a solo block.

Sophomore Malia Tufuga started at setter and finished with a career-high 39 assists to go with a career-best five digs, three blocks, an ace and a kill. Freshman Taylor Beaven started her third match of the season at libero and finished with eight digs, two assists and an ace.

Redshirt sophomore McKenna Vicini had three kills on .500 hitting, four blocks and three digs. Senior Holly Campbell had a career-high three assists to go with two digs, an ace and a block. Junior Natalie Berty, who played back row for Francis, collected a season-high seven digs.

Arizona State was led by Iman Isanovic's 19 kills and 15 digs. Geli Cyr added 12 kills and 10 digs for the Sun Devils, while Claire Jeter had 10 kills on .400 hitting. The win was just the seventh time Arizona State has defeated the Cardinal.

Stanford returns to The Farm next week to play host to Oregon on Thursday and Oregon State on Sunday.
