STANFORD, Calif. – There was only one way Senior Day could go.
Celebrating a senior class which won two national titles in their careers, a pair of fifth-year seniors scored goals to lead Stanford women's soccer to a 3-1 victory over rival California, Saturday afternoon at Maloney Field at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium.
With Saturday's victory, Stanford's senior class now owns a 53-3-3 career record at Cagan Stadium – including a 10-1-0 mark at home this season.
The Cardinal has scored at least three goals in seven games this season. Jojo Harber and Madison Haley each reached the back of the net for Stanford (13-5-1, 7-3-1) to increase its win streak over the Bears (8-7-3, 4-6-1) to two straight. Stanford has also claimed seven of the last 10 meetings against California.
Harber's 57th-minute goal was the difference maker for the Cardinal. Maya Doms charged to the middle of the field, but she was forced to dump a quick pass to Harber after being met in the box by a Bears defender. Harber turned and fired off a shot to the upper left corner of the net for the game-winning goal.
A goal from Haley opened the scoring in the 21st minute. With a pair of California defenders bearing down on Belle Briede, the fifth-year senior laid a cross into the penalty box. Haley stepped up between another pair of defenders to fire off a shot that went just to the right of Bear's goalkeeper Angelina Anderson for a goal.
Doms extended Stanford's lead with a dagger in the 85th minute. Haley diverted the attention of a trio of California defenders and sent the ball to a streaking Doms for the scoring opportunity.
With the assist and the goal, Doms now has a team-high 25 points this year. The junior has 11 goals and three assists.
California responded with a goal from Anysa Gray in the 61st minute to pull within a goal. Despite the second-half blemish, Stanford's back line limited the Bears to only two shots on goal.
Prior to Saturday's match, the Cardinal honored current players Briede, Sierra Enge, Naomi Girma, Abby Greubel, Haley, Harber and Katie Meyer, along with former Cardinal Bianca Caetano-Ferrara and Civana Kuhlmann.
