SAN DIEGO - Impressive results continued to roll in from Stanford during a busy weekend, particularly from the freshman class, highlighted by the consolation singles title for Alexandra Yepifanova at the ITA National Fall Championships.
After losing her first match of the tournament to eventual champion No. 56 ranked Eryn Cayetano of USC, Yepifanova responded with three straight wins over ranked foes in the consolation bracket. Yepifanova defeated No. 114 Karine Marion Job of Kansas State, No. 8 Natasha Subhash of Virginia and No. 53 Lisa Zaar of Pepperdine, all in straight sets.
Fellow freshman Connie Ma won her first two matches in the singles bracket, defeating Snow Han of USC and No. 35 Fiona Crawley of USC in a tight three-setter before dropping a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Daria Frayman of Princeton, the tournament's eventual runner-up. She paired with Angelica Blake in doubles as the pair won their first match of the tournament against a duo from Virginia.
Back on The Farm for the Stanford Invitational, Sara Choy, Ana Geller, Valencia Xu and India Houghton were in action for the Cardinal against foes from UC Santa Barbara, Princeton and San Francisco. The weekend was highlighted by Xu's victory over No. 99 Elizaveta Volodko from UCSB in singles.
