Headed to World Championships

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Andrei Minakov and Jon Cook will compete in the FINA 25-meter short course World Championships in Abu Dhabi later this week. Minakov will be competing for Russia while Cook will represent the Philippines.

Minakov will look to build on a strong fall season as he competes in the 400 medly relay, 400 free relay, and 100 fly. This marks his return to international competition following his efforts in the Tokyo Olympics for the Russian Olympic Committee.

The redshirt freshman is coming off an impressive showing at the NC State/GAC Invite where he set a new Stanford record in the 100 free with a time of 41.69. He also holds Stanford's top times in the 50 free and 100 fly this year, with 19.13 and 44.78 respectively.

Cook will be racing the 100 and 200 breast. He is one of four athletes to represent the Philippines at the meet.

The senior also had a strong showing at the NC State/GAC Invite, earning an NCAA B standard time in the 200 breast at 1:58.22.
