STANFORD, Calif. – Naomi Girma and Maya Doms have been named to the Scholar All-America first team as selected by United Soccer Coaches on Thursday.
Girma, a CoSIDA Academic All-America first team selection, earned 2021 Pac-12 Women's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year as a symbolic systems/management science & engineering (MS) major carrying a 3.92 cumulative grade-point average. A three-time All-Pac-12 selection and three-time team captain for the Cardinal, she is a two-time member of the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 first team and was a Senior CLASS award finalist this fall while earning Senior CLASS All-America recognition.
On the field, the two-time Pac-12 Defender of the Year (2019, 2021) and two-time United Soccer Coaches first-team All-American (2019, 2021) is a two-time Pac-12 Champion (2018-19) and helped lead the Cardinal to two College Cup appearances (2018-19) – including Stanford's third NCAA Championship title in 2019.
In 2021, the MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist started all 20 matches anchoring a Cardinal back line that posted nine shutouts and limited opponents to 0.85 goals per match. She also scored four goals, including a game-winner versus Washington State.
Doms, a third-team All-American according to United Soccer Coaches this year, started all 20 games in the midfield, playing 1,571 minutes and leading the team in goals (11) and points (25) with three game-winners. Her 11 goals ranked sixth in the Pac-12 while her 4.00 shots per game ranked fourth in the conference. The native of Davis, Calif. managed two multi-goal games this season, including a hat trick in Stanford's 7-0 rout of CSUN on August 26.
The native of Davis, Calif. carries a 3.40 GPA as a human biology major.
