STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford women's golf began its season on Thursday at Stanford Golf Course following 373 long days away from competition due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. The Cardinal hosted California and San Jose State, taking home a seven-shot victory over the Spartans. Freshman Sadie Englemann and sophomore Brooke Seay shared medalist honors at even-par, with the two teams playing 36 holes of stroke play.

Seay was steady all day, finishing the morning at 1-under while shooting 1-over in the afternoon. She had a whopping seven birdies in the morning and three more in the afternoon. Englemann, playing in her first Stanford event, shot a 3-over 74 in the morning and followed that up with a 3-under 68 in the afternoon. Her 68 was the only round in the 60s in the entire field on Thursday. She had three birdies in both rounds with an additional eagle in the afternoon. Ziyi Wang (morning) and Rachel Heck (afternoon) both had rounds at even-par on the day.

As a team, Stanford improved by nine strokes from the morning to the afternoon to surpass SJSU, who led by one stroke following the morning round. The Cardinal will now travel to Sacramento for the Gunrock Invitational next Monday and Tuesday.
