Cardinal Outlasts Concordia

STANFORD, Calif. – Freshmen outside hitters Luke Turner and Aidan Peters combined for 34 kills to lead Stanford to a 27-25, 25-22, 21-25, 21-25, 15-12 win over Concordia, Saturday, at Maples Pavilion.

Stanford (3-13) improved to 5-3 all-time against Concordia (3-11), remaining undefeated against the Eagles at home. The Cardinal hit .272 as a team, while Concordia turned in a .245 clip.

Turner finished with a career-high 19 kills to go with seven digs and four blocks. Peters, who hit .333, also had a career-high in kills with 15 and added eight digs and three blocks.
 


Sophomore setter Nathan Lietzke once again set a career-high with 50 assists and recorded his first collegiate double-double with a career-best 10 digs. The Austin, Texas, native also tallied five blocks, including one solo.
 


For the second consecutive match and the third time this season, libero Justin Lui notched double-digit digs. He had a season-high 14 on Saturday and was a steady passer with zero reception errors on 27 attempts.

Stanford hit .400 in the opening set and a match-high .412 in the decisive fifth set. For the match, the Cardinal sided out at 65 percent.

Stanford's middle blockers made their presence felt at the net as senior Kyler Presho matched his career-high with eight blocks to go with eight kills, while redshirt freshman Ethan Hill posted a career-high six blocks and three kills in four sets.

Sophomore Nathaniel Gates subbed in for Hill in the fifth set and had a pair of blocks in crucial moments. As a team, the Cardinal registered a season-high 17.0 blocks to hold off the Eagles.
 


Freshman Kupono Browne started the match at opposite and totaled nine kills and career-highs in digs (7) and blocks (5) in four sets played. Senior Mason Tufuga replaced Browne, who left the match with an injury, and had three kills and an assist down the stretch.
 


Raymond Barsemian led Concordia for the second consecutive night with a match-high 25 kills and eight digs. Jordan Hoppe added 14 kills, but was held to .140 hitting, and 13 digs, while Jonathan Carlson had 10 kills and four blocks for the Eagles.
