EUGENE, Ore. – Freshman Drew Bowser finished 3 for 4 with a double, a home run and two RBIs as No. 15 Stanford (30-13, 14-9 Pac-12) evened a three-game Pac-12 series at No. 13 Oregon (35-12, 18-8 Pac-12) by way of a 6-5 victory on Saturday.
Bowser tied the game at 4-4 with his sixth homer of the year leading off the fourth inning before delivering an RBI-double into right-center field to plate Nick Brueser and the go-ahead run in the fifth.
Stanford would add what proved to be the game-winning run in the sixth as Tim Tawa homered to left-center field to extend the Cardinal lead to 6-4. The homer was Tawa's seventh of the season and the 23rd of his career. The native of West Linn, Ore. finished the game 2 for 5 with two runs scored while hitting out of the leadoff spot in the order.
Stanford surrendered the first run in the game as Oregon plated a single tally in the first, but senior Christian Robinson capped a three-run third inning for the Cardinal with a two-RBI single back up the middle.
Robinson would finish the game 2 for 5 with the two driven in out of the sixth spot in the order, collecting his ninth multi-RBI game of the season.
Oregon's Kenyon Yovan tied the game with a two-run homer in the bottom of the third, and the Ducks added one more to take a 4-3 lead after three.
Junior Alex Williams got the start and earned the victory for Stanford, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk with five strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings. The right-hander improved to 2-1 with the decision.
Freshman Joey Dixon recorded the final two outs in the ninth, securing his second save of the year.
Cullen Kafka was saddled with the loss for Oregon after allowing five runs (two earned) on five hits and five walks with three strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings. The right-hander dropped to 5-3 with the setback.
The two teams will decide the three-game series on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 p.m. on Pac-12 Networks.
