Inaugural Champions

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford won the inaugural MPSF Artistic Swimming Championship over the weekend, taking the top spot with a final team score of 102. The University of the Incarnate Word finished second, Texas Woman's University took third, and Wheaton College claimed fourth place.

The Cardinal flexed their muscle in each event, finishing with the top spot in the figure A technical, solo, duet, trio, and team competitions.

To start the championship on Friday, each team competed in the technical competition. For Stanford, four athletes grabbed the top four spots, with Jacklyn Luu taking home first place with a score of 82.3845. The other three cardinal in the top four all finished with at least 79.4, nearly two points more than the next highest finisher. Rounding out the top four were Nicole Goot, Lindi Schroeder, and Emma Tchakmakjian.

Following a lunch break on Friday, the trio competition took place where Stanford finished first, second, and fifth overall. The winning team was comprised of Nicole Goot, Lindi Schroeder, and Ava Jih-Schiff finished with a remarkable score of 82.8667. Jacklyn Luu, Audrey Nguyen, and Emma Tchakmakjian took second overall, less than a point behind the winners with 82.0333. Emily Brieant, Sabrina Walsh, and Natalie Greenfield rounded out the trios for Stanford, taking home fifth place.

Saturday concluded with the solo competition which featured only one Stanford athlete, Lindi Schroeder. It only took one to win first place, however.

Schroeder put on a dazzling performance to score a 84.9667, two and a half more points than the second place finisher. This concluded an impressive day one for the freshman, as she took home event wins in both the trio and solo competitions.

The second day began with another beautiful morning at the Avery Aquatic Center with the duet final. Stanford featured two pairings and took home first and second place in the event.

Nicole Goot and Hailee Heinrich joined up to grab first place, with a mark of 83.8000. Jacklyn Luu and Emma Tchakmakjian onced again made it on the podium finishing second overall.

The final competition of the MPSF Championships was the team competition. After a lunch break and warm up period, the excited eight-person display began.

Stanford once again finished in the top spot with a score 83.553 following a fantastic showing of acrobatic elements in the performance. The Cardinal claimed first by more than four points to the next closest team.

After taking home the inaugural MPSF Championship, Stanford will be back in the pool for the Western Regionals next month, once again in the Avery Aquatic Center.
