STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford won a pair of the College Gymnastics Association weekly awards this week, with freshman Khoi Young earning Rookie of the Week, and senior Brody Malone earning Specialist of the Week.
Young won the all-around title with a combined 82.750 last week at the Big Flip Open - turning in the third-best score in the nation. Young's highest finish on the afternoon came on vault where he posted a 14.500. Sunday's all-around marked just the second time that Young had officially competed for Stanford – and the first time since the opening meet where he only participated on pommel horse.
Young has twice been named CGA Rookie of the Year this season, last earning the honor on February 2 when he also claimed National Gymnast of the Year.
Malone made his season debut for the Cardinal on Sunday, winning the pommel horse (14.000) and horizontal bar titles (14.300).
The selection is the first as a specialist for Malone, while he has claimed five CGA National Gymnast of the Week honors in her career.
