LA QUINTA, Calif. - Stanford men's golf began play at The Prestige on Monday and is tied for 18th in a bunched field after the first round. Windy conditions prevailed at the Norman Course on PGA West with the Cardinal shooting an 18-over 302. Vanderbilt owns the lead with a 3-over 287, but there were only six teams who were 9-over-or-better on Monday.

Michael Thorbjornsen leads the way for Stanford with a 1-over 72 and is inside the top 20. He had three of Stanford's six birdies on the day.

The Cardinal began on the tougher of the two sides - the front nine - and also battled the wind which picked up in the afternoon. Stanford will have a chance to play in calmer conditions on Tuesday morning when they tee off the back nine beginning at 7:40 a.m.
