Ng Leads Card On Day One

LOS CABOS, Mexico - No. 8 Stanford men's golf shot a 3-under 281 on Sunday to end day one at the Cabo Collegiate in a tie for sixth. Senior Ethan Ng led the way with a 4-under 67 and is currently tied for fourth. After 18 holes, Oklahoma State leads the tournament at 13-under and the Cowboys' Brian Stark is the individual leader following a 6-under 65. 

All five Cardinal had at least three birdies on the day, led by Ng's six. Ng was 5-under through his first eight holes, but finished with two bogeys and a birdie over his final 10 holes to finish with his 67, his second-best round of the season. Sophomore Michael Thorbjornsen is again inside the Top 20, finishing the day in a tie for 19th after a 2-under 69. For Thorbjornsen it was his fifth round of the season in the 60s. 

Playing in his 102nd career round, sixth-year senior Henry Shimp carded an even-par 71 and is tied for 36th. Shimp has played 11 of 19 rounds this season at even-par or better. 

Monday's second round will be a shotgun start at 7 a.m. PT. The Cardinal will play with Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Texas Tech.
