WAIMEA, Hawaii - Stanford men's golf opened its spring schedule on Thursday against a talented field at the Amer Ari Invitational at Hapuna Golf Course. The Cardinal, led by matching 4-under 68s from Henry Shimp and Jake Beber-Frankel, sits in sixth with a 12-under 276. Competing in a deep, 19-team field, Stanford sits just eight strokes behind leader Arizona State with 36 holes left to play.

For Beber-Frankel, the 4-under 68 was his best career round as a Cardinal. He tallied five birdies against just one bogey in the round. Shimp tallied six birdies in his round, matching Beber-Frankel's 68 to sit tied for 13th. Both Nate Menon and Barclay Brown sit tied for 32nd with 2-under 70s on Thursday. Menon's eight birdies in the first round matched the tournament high.

Friday's second round features a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. PT/7:30 a.m. HT. The Cardinal will play with Arizona State, TCU and Pepperdine, going off holes 1-3, with the exception of Alex Yang, who will tee off No. 18 as an individual.
