AUSTIN, Texas – Junior Kevin Lamp matched his career-high with 11 kills to lead No. 14 Stanford to a 25-20, 25-16, 25-16 win over Fairleigh Dickinson, Friday, in the First Point Collegiate Challenge at the Austin Convention Center.
Stanford (6-2) matched its season-best hitting percentage, posting a .472 clip. The Cardinal held the Knights (0-4) to a .037 attack percentage – the lowest by an opponent this season.
Lamp registered his 11 kills on a .368 attack percentage to go with a dig and a block. Junior Will Rottman added nine kills on 18 errorless swings to hit .500. The Santa Barbara native also led the team with eight digs. Sophomore Luke Turner chipped in with five kills, three digs and a block.
Friday's matches marked the first time collegiate men's volleyball has been played in the state of Texas.
Austin native Nathan Lietzke dished out 35 assists and finished with five digs and three blocks. Redshirt junior libero Justin Lui anchored the defense with five digs and had three assists.
Lietzke got the Cardinal middles involved early and often. Redshirt sophomore Ethan Hill tallied eight kills on .727 hitting, while junior Nathaniel Gates had seven kills on .500 hitting and a match-high five blocks.
Fairleigh Dickinson was led by Artem Vetrov's 11 kills, while Jack Lydon added nine kills. Setter Rui Fernandes posted 20 assists and seven digs for the Knights, while libero Grady Hoffman totaled six digs. The Knights are in their first season as an NCAA Division I program.
Stanford closes out the First Point Collegiate Challenge on Saturday versus No. 1 Hawaii at 4 p.m. PT.
