BOSTON – Stanford brought five to the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invitational indoor track and field meet on Saturday and each placed among the top four with four setting new personal bests.

The biggest of those performances came from a pair of throwers: Max McKhann and Sam Liokumovich. McKhann won the 35-pound weight throw and Liokumovich was second in the shot put. Even more impressive were their marks.

McKhann threw 68-0 ¼ (20.73 meters), improving upon his week-old personal record by nearly two feet while two spots to No. 3 on Stanford's all-time indoor list, nudging past Olympian Shaun Pickering (67-0 ½, 20.43m; 1983).

McKhann had a consistent series with each of his five legal throws at 19.76 meters or above. His best throw came in round five, but any of his top three throws would have won the competition. Teammate Anthony Argyropoulos was fourth in the field, with his top throw of 57-11 ¾ (17.67m) coming in the final round.

Liokumovich took the lead on his fifth attempt, putting the shot 59-5 (18.11m), a lifetime best by more than four feet, including indoors and outdoors. The distance was overtaken in the final round by Turner Kelly, a 2021 NCAA Division II All-American, at 59-9 (18.21m). Liokumovich jumped from No. 10 to No. 4 on the Stanford all-time indoor list. Among the six he passed on the list were Olympic discus thrower Michael Robertson and Omer Inan, an Academy Award winner for technological achievement.

In the men's 3,000, Evan Burke and Callum Bolger placed second and third on the 200-meter banked track at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center, each with a personal best. Burke ran 7:58.24 to go under 8 minutes for the first time, and Bolger ran 8:00.96.

The Cardinal next competes Friday and Saturday, splitting its squad between the Husky Invitational in Seattle and the Don Kirby Elite Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
