WAIMEA, Hawaii - Stanford men's golf fired a 16-under 272 on Saturday to close the Amer Ari Invitational in ninth place at 25-under for the tournament. The 16-under was the seventh-best round to par in program history (fourth-lowest in the play five, count four format) and the 25-under for the tournament was tied for the 10th-best event to par in school history.

Stanford was led in the final round by Michael Thorbjornsen, Barclay Brown and Jake Beber-Frankel. The trio combined for 19-under, behind Thorbjornsen's 8-under 64 (career best), Brown's 6-under 66 (sixth career round of 66-or-better) and Beber-Frankel's 5-under 67 (career best). Thorbjornsen entered the day tied for 55th at 1-under and rose 40 spots on the leaderboard to finish tied for 15th. Brown and Beber-Frankel climbed from tied for 69th entering the day to finish tied for 34th.

"It's always a great test to open the spring season against a strong field and on a challenging course like Hapuna," Knowles Family Director of Men's Golf Conrad Ray said. "There's a high premium for hitting it in the fairway to make birdies. You also need to avoid three putts and big numbers. The team had their share this week, but hung in there. I'm proud that the last day was the best day scoring wise. Everyone Is looking forward to building on some decent golf in our opener for The Prestige in a few weeks."

The Cardinal returns to action on Monday, Feb. 21 when they take on another strong field at The Prestige. The event, which will once again be staged at PGA West, will feature 18 holes over each of the three days.
