STANFORD, Calif. - Spencer Jones scored 22 points and Harrison Ingram pitched in 17 with eight rebounds, but Stanford men's basketball (14-9, 7-6 Pac-12) fell to No. 12/12 UCLA on Tuesday night at Maples Pavilion, 79-70.
Jones tallied his fourth 20-point outing of the year, and the second in three games, going 9-for-14 mark from the field with a 4-for-9 tally from 3-point range. Jones is now just four made threes away from tying for 11th on the all-time Stanford list. Michael O'Connell added 13 points and a team-high four assists, and Jaiden Delaire scored nine.
The Bruins (17-4, 9-3 Pac-12) ended a two-game slide. Johnny Juzang scored 23 points and Jaime Jaquez, Jr. added 16, including a momentum changing four-point play.
James Keefe hit a layup with 3:58 remaining in the first half to bring Stanford within 31-29 of the Bruins, who then went on a 10-2 run the rest of the way to take a 41-31 edge into the locker room at the intermission. The Cardinal cut the Bruins lead as low as seven in the closing minutes, and outscored the Bruins in the second half, 39-38, but UCLA got out of Maples with the result.
The Cardinal has a quick turnaround with its third of four games over a seven-day stretch, traveling to Oregon on Thursday, Feb. 10 at 6 p.m. on ESPN2.
