Weekend Split

STANFORD, Calif. – Will Rottman and Luke Turner combined for 30 kills, but Stanford came up short in a rematch with No. 1 UCLA, 25-20, 13-25, 23-25, 25-27, Saturday, at Maples Pavilion.

UCLA (13-3, 5-1) out hit Stanford (9-8, 1-3), .426 to .312, and recorded 14.0 blocks for the match. The Cardinal out dug the Bruins 40-35, and each team registered four aces.

Rottman led the team for the second consecutive night with 16 kills, eight digs, two blocks and an assist. Turner finished with a season-high 14 kills on .417 hitting, six digs, a block and an ace.
 


Junior setter Nathan Lietzke dished out 46 assists and was one dig shy of a double-double. Redshirt junior libero Justin Lui matched Lietzke with nine digs and had three assists.

Middle blocker Ethan Hill hit .412, tallying nine kills, two aces and a block, while outside hitter Kevin Lamp totaled nine kills, four digs and an ace. Middle blocker Nathaniel Gates chipped in with three kills and a block.
 


UCLA had four player register double-digit kills, led by middle Merrick McHenry's match-high 17.Outside hitter Ethan Champlin recorded 14 kills, seven digs and three blocks, while opposite Kevin Kobrine had 12 kills, 11 digs and seven blocks for the Bruins.

Up next, Stanford will host Bay Area All-Stars on March 19 at 6 p.m. in Burnham Pavilion.
