STANFORD, Calif. - No. 24 Stanford suffered a rare home loss on Tuesday afternoon, falling to No. 30 UC Santa Barbara 4-3 at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
Amelia Honer outlasted India Houghton 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 4 spot in the deciding match, as Stanford (9-3, 3-0 Pac-12) lost at home for only the sixth time in its last 92 matches dating back to 2018.
UC Santa Barbara (9-5, 1-0 Big West) captured the doubles point, extended its lead to 3-1 in singles and then held off a late Stanford charge to secure the upset.
Trailing 1-0 after doubles, the Cardinal evened the match when Sara Choy picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win on court six.
The Gauchos responded with a pair of straight-set wins, closing in on the clincher at 3-1 after Filippa Bruu-Syversen defeated Valencia Xu 6-4, 6-4 on court five.
Alexandra Yepifanova and Connie Ma provided some breathing room for the Cardinal, prevailing in three-set wins inside the stadium to make it 3-3.
Leading 5-0 in the third set, Houghton managed to win a game before Honer provided the clincher.
Stanford's six-match homestand continues on Friday, hosting USC at 1:30 p.m.
