Card Drops Heartbreaker at USC

LOS ANGELES – In a tight battle that came down to a series of tiebreak points, No. 13 Stanford fell to No. 15 USC, 4-3, on Friday afternoon.

USC jumped out to an early lead, winning via an 11-9 tiebreaker on court one to claim the doubles point. Max Basing and Alexandre Rotsaert won their own doubles match in tiebreak fashion on court three, 7-6 (1).

The Cardinal got early singles wins from Timothy Sah on court six, 6-1, 6-4, and Basing on court three, 7-6 (5), 6-1, and needed two more singles wins to clinch the match. Trailing 3-2 overall, Axel Geller picked up a three-set victory in the second position, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, to tie the tally, but a pair of tiebreak victories on court four led USC to a win over Rotsaert.
