Concordia Outlasts Stanford

IRVINE, Calif. – Despite 25 kills from Will Rottman, Concordia captured a 25-20, 25-21, 18-25, 21-25, 15-13 victory over No. 14 Stanford, Thursday, at CU Arena.

It was the first MPSF win of the season for Concordia (6-4, 1-2 MPSF), which hit .292 and finished with 9.0 blocks, 43 digs and six aces. Stanford drops to 8-6 overall and 0-1 in the conference. The Cardinal hit .295 and posted 45 digs, seven aces and 6.0 blocks.

Rottman's 25 kills was a new career-high for the outside hitter. The Santa Barbara native hit .340 and finished with eight digs, two blocks and an ace.

Junior setter Nathan Lietzke turned in a career-best 55 assists to go with 10 digs for his first double-double of the season. He also had two kills, two blocks and an ace against the Eagles. Redshirt junior libero Justin Lui tallied 10 digs – his seventh double-digit dig output of the season.

Redshirt sophomore middle blocker Ethan Hill also had a career-high with 14 kills on 23 swings with just one error to hit .565. He also totaled two aces, two blocks and two assists. Opposite Luke Turner added nine kills on a .350 attack percentage, six digs, a block and an ace.

Outside hitter Kevin Lamp matched his career-best with 14 kills and had six digs, two aces and a solo block. It was the second straight match with 14 kills for the junior. Middle blocker Nathaniel Gates chipped in with five kills, four digs and two blocks.

Concordia had four players post double-digit kills, led by Owen Chun's 14. Jonathan Carlson turned in 11 kills, while Mason Mullins and Uriel Batista each had 10 for the Eagles.

Stanford and Concordia meet again on Friday at 7 p.m. in CU Arena.
