IRVINE, Calif. – Still searching for its first road win of the season, No. 14 Stanford dropped a 25-22, 22-25, 27-25, 25-20 decision at Concordia, Friday, at CU Arena.
For the second straight night, Stanford (8-7, 0-2 MPSF) out hit Concordia (7-4, 2-2 MPSF) .290 to .284. The Cardinal registered a season-high 15.5 blocks and tallied six aces. The Eagles held a 48-43 advantage in digs.
Redshirt sophomore middle blocker Ethan Hill recorded a career-high 10 blocks to go with eight kills on .429 hitting. His 10 blocks are the most by an MPSF player since 2020.
Junior setter Nathan Lietzke dished out 48 assists to go with a career-best seven kills on .600 hitting. The setter also had a season-high five blocks, five digs and a pair of aces. Libero Justin Lui collected 10 digs – his eighth double-digit dig output of the season.
Opposite Luke Turner posted his first collegiate double-double with 12 kills and a career and match-high 16 digs. His 12 kills came on .364 hitting and he was solid on serve receive with no errors on 40 attempts.
Stanford hit .500 in the second set win, siding out at a rate of 77 percent. The Cardinal led late in the third, but a 6-1 run by the Eagles completed the comeback. In total, there were 39 tie scores and nine lead changes in the match.
Junior Will Rottman led the team with 14 kills, but was held to .122 hitting. The outside hitter finished with six digs, three blocks and two aces. Junior Kevin Lamp added eight kills and three digs, while middle blocker Nathaniel Gates had nine kills on .471 hitting and four blocks.
Concordia was led by Jonathan Carlson's match-best 15 kills on a .345 attack percentage. Owen Chun added 14 kills on .423 hitting, while Uriel Batista had 12 kills and five blocks.
Stanford returns to The Farm next week, hosting No. 1 UCLA for a pair of matches on Friday and Saturday in Maples Pavilion.
