FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Stanford capped off day three with a Pac-12 championship meet record and school record time of 3:01.45 in the 400 medley relay. Leon MacAlister, Ron Polonsky, Andrei Minakov, and Luke Maurer combined for the victory to close out day three.
The Cardinal also claimed an individual event title in the 100 fly and had seven swimmers finish in top six of the five individual events. 17 total Cardinal swimmers scored points in the A and B finals.
Andrei Minakov showed that he is one of the elite butterfly swimmers in the world, recording the fifth-fastest time ever in the 100-yard butterfly. His time of 43.90 set a new conference record, program record, and marked the fastest time of any collegiate swimmer this year.
The 100 fly was one of Stanford's best events of the meet so far, with four of the eight A final lanes filled with Cardinal swimmers. Aaron Sequeira swam the fourth-fastest time in Stanford history to claim fourth place.
Ethan Hu and Jonny Affeld finished sixth and seventh in the heat, taking home a combined 25 points.
In the 400 I.M., Ron Polonsky was the top finisher for Stanford, bringing home fourth place. The freshman Olympian recorded the second-fastest time in program history, 3:39.49.
Alex Liang and Rick Mihm earned points for the Cardinal in the event as well, finishing second and fourth in the B final, respectively.
In the 200 free, Preston Forst claimed a podium spot, finishing second overall with a time of 1:32.48, a new program record. Luke Maurer finished fifth in the A final with a 1:33.20, moving up on the all-time program list from eighth to sixth.
In the B final, Neel Roy and Grant Shoults also scored points for Stanford, finishing seventh and eighth, respectively.
The 100 breast featured three Cardinal swimmers in scoring positions. Daniel Roy finished seventh in the A final, while Ethan Dang nabbed second and Jon Cook finished fifth in the B final.
The 100 back featured Leon MacAlister and Aaron Sequeira in the A final, with the former finishing on the podium in third place. Sequeira had another strong race, taking fifth overall.
Shane Blinkman finished sixth in the B final to score three more points for Stanford.
Following the third day of competition, Stanford holds onto first place with 579.5 points. California has moved into second place with 516.5 points.
The Cardinal are back in action for the final day of the Pac-12 Championships tomorrow, featuring the 1,650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, finishing with the 400 free relay.
