FAIRFAX, Calif. – No. 1 Stanford women's golf closed Monday's 36-hole day strong and sits in second place at the Juli Inkster Invitational at Meadow Club. The Cardinal trails No. 9 San Jose State by 14 strokes entering Tuesday's final round, but trailed the Spartans by as many as 21 strokes at one point during the first day of play. Freshman Rose Zhang leads the Cardinal at 3-under and is tied for sixth.

Stanford started slow and posted a 7-over 295 through the first round to sit tied for sixth. The Cardinal's five golfers in their lineup combined to make just seven birdies in the first round. In the afternoon, though, Stanford shaved 12 strokes from its first round, posting a 5-under 283, tied for the second-best mark in the field for the second round. The Cardinal lineup combined for 22 birdies in the second round.

Stanford will play with San Jose State and San Francisco when Tuesday's round begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
