BERKELEY, Calif. – Just as in the Stanford Invitational last week, Garrett Brown and Laurel Wong gave Stanford a pole vault sweep, this time at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational at Edwards Stadium on Saturday.

Brown, a freshman and reigning Pac-12 Men's Field Athlete of the Week, captured the men's event at 17-1 (5.21 meters) and Wong won the women's at 12-9 ½ (3.90m). Each won despite sharing the winning heights.

They were among 12 Stanford athletes to compete in the meet, with Megan Olomu earning two lifetime bests, in the women's 100 and 200.

The women's pole vault had six competitors over 12-3 ½ (3.75m), including Stanford's Kelly Kern with her collegiate best. At that point, Stanford's Lianne Kistler and UC Davis' Marin Chamberlin shared with the lead without a miss.

However, Wong and former University of Houston vaulter Sage Hintnaus-Gaudian cleared at 12-9 ½ on their first tries. Kistler and Chamberlin needed three. On the countback, the result was determined by earlier jumps at 11-9 ¾ (3.60m). Wong cleared it on her first try and Hintnaus-Guadian on her second.

In the men's pole vault, Brown and Cal's Tyler Burns both cleared 17-1. Brown got in on his second try, while Burns cleared on his third. The extra jump cost Burns. Brown was perfect at his first three heights. Brown took three tries at a lifetime best 17-5 ¾ (5.33m), but was unsuccessful.

Olomu continues to improve every meet. A week after a lifetime best 25.01 in the 200, Olomu sliced it to 24.90, while placing sixth. In the 100, she lowered her best from 12.26 to 12.17 in a runner-up finish.

The Cardinal will split its squad next week among three Southern California meets -- the Mt. SAC Invitational in Walnut, the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, and the Bryan Clay Invite in Azusa.
