STANFORD, Calif. – A pair of triples and seven shutout innings from Regan Krause and Molly Millar led No. 21/24 Stanford to a 4-0 victory over Pacific, Wednesday night at Boyd & Jill Smith Family Stadium.
Sydnee Huff and Taylor Gindlesperger tripled in the second and fourth innings to each bat in a run – the second time this season the Cardinal (32-13) has hit two triples in a game this season (Feb. 20, Seattle). It was a banner night for Gindlesperger, who finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and a pair of runs after opening the game with three straight hits.
Stanford's 20 triples is tied for the second-highest total in the nation.
Gindlesperger opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice bunt from Emily Young. She batted in Emily Young on a single up the left side in the second inning, and crossed home plate herself on Huff's triple for a 3-0 lead.
Krause picked up the win to improve to 9-4 on the season, pitching six innings. Her seven strikeouts are one shy of her single-game career high, and the sophomore retired the first 10 batters she faced – spacing out seven hits. Millar came into the game in the top of the seventh with a runner on second base. She induced three straight fly ball outs to end the game and preserve Stanford's win. Stanford's pitchers did not issue a walk in the game.
The Cardinal stole four bases on the night – led by two from Sydney Steele.
Stanford returns to action with a pivotal match-up at No. 11/10 Washington, April 29 – May 1, in Seattle, Wash. The Cardinal trails the Huskies by one game for third in the Pac-12 standings.
