2021-22 Season In Review

The 2022 season was an eventful one for Stanford, culminating with multiple end of the year awards and a runner-up finish at the U.S. Collegiate Championships. The Cardinal joined four other teams in the inaugural MPSF Artistic Swimming season and won the first ever MPSF Artistic Swimming Championships.

FRESHMAN FIREPOWER

The Cardinal began the season with two of the best newcomers in the sport, bringing in a Tokyo Olympian in Lindi Schroeder and a U.S. National Team member, Nicole Goot. The pair of freshmen instantly made their impact felt, as both earned MPSF Artistic Swimmer of the Week awards during the regular season.
 


INAUGURAL CHAMPIONS

Stanford had two successful meets in the regular season, earning wins against Wheaton College and Texas Woman's University before hosting the first-ever MPSF Championships at the Avery Aquatic Center.

The Cardinal came out on top in the championship meet while also sweeping the three major awards in the meet. Stanford flexed its muscle in each event, finishing with the top spot in the figure A technical, solo, duet, trio, and team competitions.

Jacklyn Luu brought home first place with a score of 82.3845 in the technical competition. Nicole Goot, Lindi Schroeder, and Ava Jih-Schiff combined to win the MPSF trio competition with a score of 82.8667. 

Lindi Schroeder put on a dazzling solo performance to take the individual conference title with a score of 84.9667, two and a half more points than the second place finisher. 

In the duet, Nicole Goot and Hailee Heinrich joined up to grab first place, with a mark of 83.8000. Jacklyn Luu and Emma Tchakmakjian took home silver in the event as well, making it a 1-2 finish for the Cardinal.

In the team event, Stanford once again finished in the top spot with a score 83.553 following a fantastic showing of acrobatic elements in the performance. The Cardinal claimed first by more than four points to the next closest team.

CONFERENCE AWARDS SWEEP

Nicole Goot earned two accolades for her performances, taking home the Freshman of the Meet and Swimmer of the Meet awards. Head Coach Megan Abarca claimed the third award for the Cardinal, earning Coach of the Meet.

Seven Stanford student-athletes earned All-MPSF honors following the meet as well, with Nicole Goot, Jacklyn Luu, Lindi Schroeder, Emmanuella Tchakmakjian, Hailee Heinrich, Ava Jih-Schiff, and Audrey Nguyen claiming the awards.


RUNNER-UP FINISH

At the U.S. Collegiate Nationals in Columbus, Ohio, Stanford claimed three silver medals, one in the solo courtesy of Lindi Schroeder, the second in the team competition, and the third in the trio competition from Lindi Schroeder, Nicole Goot, and Ava Jih-Schiff.

POSTSEASON ACCOLADES

Jacklyn Luu earned the prestigious Collegiate Athlete of the Year award from USA Artistic Swimming, the second time in as many years that she's earned the accolade. Seven swimmers who earned All-America honors as well, the same seven who took home the All-MPSF awards.

Following the end of the season, Jacklyn Luu earned an invitation to the USA Artistic Swimming Senior National Team. Stanford head coach Megan Abarca will also join Team USA as head coach of the junior national team.
