SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - No. 1 seed Stanford women's golf defeated No. 8 seed Georgia, 3-2, on Tuesday morning at Grayhawk Golf Club in the NCAA quarterfinals. The Cardinal will take on No. 5 seed Auburn this afternoon.

"When things don't go your way early, it's easier to try to bite off more than you can chew," Margot and Mitch Milias Director of Women's Golf Anne Walker said. "I was very pleased that when they got down early, which many of them did, they didn't try  to force things. They just waited and let it come to them. Brooke Seay's performance was unbelievable. She was one-down all the way through 10, never let it get to her, and went birdie-birdie-birdie. Aline Krauter, who was three-up through 15 and then was forced to 17 with a birdie, but be able to hold steady and lag a putt up there for the win. And then Rachel Heck was forced down 18 because of a birdie on 17. And then I have to mention Rose, she did have an eagle putt on 18 that I have no doubt would've tied that match.

"We have to be really determined. Auburn is very well coached. We know that they're going to come out hungry. They were down early to UCLA and never took their foot off the gas pedal. It'll be the same mentality of one shot at a time and we just have to keep fighting."

Stanford got wins from Rachel Heck, Brooke Seay and the clincher from Aline Krauter. Heck defeated Jenny Bae, 2up; Seay defeated LoraLie Cowart, 3&2; and Krauter beat Jo Hua Hung, 2up.
