Season Ends in Supers

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford's season came to an end in a 2-0 loss to Oregon State to end the Stanford Super Regional, Saturday at Boyd & Jill Smith Family Stadium.

A two-run first inning for Oregon State was the turning point of the afternoon. The Beavers opened the game with back-to-back singles, and a one-out walk loaded the bases. Starting pitcher Alana Vawter struck out the next batter she faced, but a single up the left side pushed two runs across the plate – however, the inning ended after the trail runner was tagged out retreating to second.

Regan Krause replaced Vawter in the circle to start the second inning and pitched marvelously for the remainder of the game. The sophomore had five strikeouts in 5.0 shutout innings, and she did not allow a hit until the sixth inning.

Stanford (39-22) had its best chance to score in the top of the fifth after Emily Young and Sydney Steele opened the frame with back-to-back singles. Caelan Koch drew a one-out walk to load the bases and force the Beavers (39-20) to turn to Mariah Mazon in the circle. The fifth-year senior had back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning and keep Stanford off the board.

The Cardinal were unable to get a baserunner the rest of the game to end its comeback chances.

Stanford ends its season with 39 wins – its most since 2013, as well as making its first Super Regional appearance since 2011.
